3 Types of Dental Bridges, Texarkana, Arkansas

Missing teeth can impact your smile and your confidence. If left untreated, the spaces caused by missing teeth also have health consequences, as they permit remaining teeth to shift, which can have an effect on your jaw and bite alignment. Luckily, dental bridges offer a reliable solution for filling in any gaps in your smile. These prosthetic devices are usually used in cases where multiple teeth are missing, and are cemented to teeth surrounding the space where the missing ones once existed.

Here, cosmetic dentistry professional Randall A. Ellis DDS in Texarkana, AR, explains three popular types of dental bridges that can help you get your smile back in picture perfect shape.

3 Dental Bridge Optionsdentist

1. Traditional Bridge

The most popular option, a traditional bridge consists of porcelain or ceramic material fused to metal. The two teeth adjacent to either side of the gap receive a dental crown, while the fake tooth is installed between them.

2. Maryland Bridge

This more conservative style of bridges consists of a metal framework base. With Maryland bridges, a false tooth is attached to the metal or to porcelain wings that are cemented to the remaining teeth.

3. Cantilever Bridge

Unlike the traditional dental bridge, the cantilever doesn’t require two teeth on either side of the gap left by the missing tooth. Instead, the fake implant is attached directly to the abutment teeth.

Depending on how many teeth you are missing and your jaw structure, an experienced dentist will be able to determine which type of dental bridge is best for your needs.
