No matter what products you use, it will be hard to have good oral health if your toothbrush is not properly cared for. In this article, we will discuss proven methods that will keep your toothbrush clean and in good condition.

Always rinse your toothbrush before and after brushing by using your (clean) thumb to move the bristles back and forth under hot running water. This will wash away bacteria and dust particles that may have settled on the bristles since you brushed last.

Let your toothbrush dry between brushes! The exposure to air will kill many bacteria that thrive in low oxygen environments.

Store your toothbrush upright and so that it will not come in contact with other surfaces. This allows the water to drain from the bristles and prevents cross contamination. This means no covered containers – they do not allow adequate ventilation and often the walls of the container can contaminate your toothbrush unless it was recently cleaned.

Another piece of advice, store your toothbrush as far away from your toilet as possible to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush.

Remember to see your dentist regularly to get a new toothbrush. Visit www.perrycosmeticdentist.com or call (478) 987-1441 to book your appointment with Dr. Michael L. Kinsley, D.M.D.
