People v. F.N. (Webster Tn. Ct. 12/16)

          Mr. Corletta helped another young client maintain a license in People v. F.N. (Webster Tn. Ct. 12/16). In that case, the client, a young driver, was initially stopped for speeding late at night. The client panicked, and turned into a development where the client lived and did not stop, leading the officer on a short “chase” through the development before the client pulled over. The speeds were not excessive, but were over the speed limit.

          The client was neither intoxicated, nor attempting to hide anything. The client simply panicked. The officer showed no mercy, writing the client 10 tickets, for every conceivable traffic violation he could think of, totaling a potential 29 points. If the client were found guilty of all charges, they would lose their license for a substantial period of time.

          Upon taking the case, Mr. Corletta immediately demanded Supporting Depositions, which were not provided. On the appearance date, Mr. Corletta conveyed the facts to the District Attorney. Mr. Corletta also noted the client’s clean driving record and steady employment in 2 jobs. Based upon Mr. Corletta’s arguments, the District Attorney agreed to reduce the charges to a total of 5 points, allowing the client to maintain their license.

          Moreover, the client took a Defensive Driver Course at Mr. Corletta’s instruction, which removed 4 points from the client's record, thereby making the matter a virtual wash. This was all done in one Court appearance. Needless to say, the young client was extremely grateful as a seemingly hopeless situation was quickly and effectively resolved by Mr. Corletta.
