Taking a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid training class comes with a lot of benefits. The course is available to the general public, even to those not working in the healthcare sector, and the training can teach you essential skills that may one day save a life.

Residents of Fort Thomas, KY, can easily take CPR and first aid training with Northern KY Emergency Medical Services. This training center is a non-profit organization certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI). Their instructors possess extensive backgrounds in emergency services.

Below is a list of what’s involved in CPR and first aid training:

  • Class Discussion: Trainees are given manuals that have step-by-step illustrations and texts about the rescue process. Written instructions include topics on how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), chest compression technique, etc. Each section will be discussed by the class instructor.CPR

  • Training Video Clips: Trainees will get to watch a series of short video clips about different emergency scenarios and what a rescuer should do. Clips will demonstrate rescue procedures on the Heimlich maneuver, child or infant CPR, and more.

  • Practical Demonstrations: After discussions, trainees can apply what they have learned through group exercises and practical demonstrations. The hands-on training involves practicing administering breaths and chest compressions on infant, child, and adult mannequins.

  • Training Written Exam: It’s important for trainees to retain relevant information about the different rescue procedures. Thus, a written exam will also be conducted and graded. Students usually get three attempts to take and pass the exam.

  • AHA Certification: After passing the written examination and skills demonstration, trainees will receive a CPR and first aid training certification card from the AHA. This card is valid for two years and will serve as proof that you have completed the course.
