Parents of bright children want the best educational outlets to help their little ones learn and grow, and in New York City, the gifted and talented test is a crucial first step. To identify the city’s top young minds, NYC’s Department of Education administers these assessments to determine entry into this highly selective program; it is available to children between the ages of four and seven as they enter kindergarten through third grade. The staff at New York City’s FasTracKids explains more about the components and implications of this important test.

The New York City gifted and talented test comprises two parts, weighted equally:

  • Verbal Component: Fifty percent of the gifted and talented test score is based on the results of the OLSAT® (Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test®, 8th Edition).
  • Nonverbal Component: The results of the NNAT®-2 (Naglieri Nonverbal Abilities Test™, 2nd Edition) determines the other half of the test score.

To help your child prepare for the gifted and talented test, FasTracKids offers specially designed courses to familiarize your child with the test format, stimulate critical thinking, and ensure a successful, low-stress experience on test day. Last year, 95% of FasTracKids’ alumni qualified for gifted and talented programs throughout the city, and 45% soared into the 99th percentile.
