Before you shut the door to your tool shed for the last time this season, make sure you’re prepping your equipment so it will be in good condition come spring. Wagoner Power Equipment, a STIHL® retailer in the Englewood area, has put together a quick guide for preparing all of your lawn equipment, from edgers to lawn mowers, for the coming winter months.

Lawn Mowers

lawn mowerBefore you pack the lawn mower away, add Briggs & Stratton® 5-in-1 fuel preservative to the fuel. The gasoline will separate and degrade over the course of the next few months, and condensation will form on the inside of the tank.  Change the engine oil & filter.  Sharpen and balance the blades.  Replace the air filter, the fuel filter, and the spark plugs. Remove the spark plug lead wire, then tip the lawn mower on its side and clean out the underside. Give the mower a thorough cleaning and apply a small amount of Fluid Film® to the blade. Finally, remove the battery and store it in a dry place away from any heat sources.

Hedge Trimmers, Edgers, & Other Equipment

If your hedge trimmer or edger is gas-powered, follow the same steps above to add Briggs & Stratton 5-in-1 fuel stabilizer. Make sure the spark plugs are in clean, good condition, and replace the air filter & fuel filter on your equipment. Clean the blade and apply Fluid Film to stave off rusting. When in doubt, the rule of thumb for all lawn equipment is to store it while it’s clean and dry.
