If we knew when we were going to have a plumbing emergency, it wouldn’t be an emergency. That’s the nature of emergencies: they happen when we least expect them to.

emergency buttonAnd so it was for me when I discovered that my four-year old sump pump had quick working. My wife was in the basement and decided to empty the dehumidifier. Normally this turns the sump pump on, but that didn’t happen this time. She looked into the pump well and saw the water was nearly up to the floor and ready to overflow.

Now we had already gone through a basement flood once, and we sure didn’t want to go through that again. So I did what any homeowner would do. I turned the pump on and off a few times. I could tell there was power going to the pump because it was moving the water a little and making noise but not pumping anything. I tried repositioning the pump thinking that maybe something was blocking the float, but I had no luck. So after an exhaustive search of my plumbing skills (this took all of about five minutes), I decided to call The Plumbing Source.

With rain in the forecast and one flood under our belts, I knew this was an emergency. I reached the operator and she promised to relay the message to the plumber on call. Well I got a call back within minutes, and I was told they’d have someone out to my house that evening. The plumbers on call had been working all day resolving other emergencies.

Within three hours, and at 8:30 on a Saturday night, the Plumbing Source truck pulled into my driveway. Two neatly dressed plumbers came into my house and brought a new sump pump with them. Within an hour they had replaced the pump. My wife and I watched like little kids as the pump drained all the water from the collection lines and the well.

The plumbers left the basement clean, took the old pump with them for disposal, and hurried off to their next call. It’s amazing to experience this kind of professionalism and to get it well after normal business hours. Every single person we talked to really knew what they were doing, and we ended up getting emergency service faster than they promised.

So here’s the lesson. You need to know ONE phone number. Write it down, put it in your phone or stick it on your refrigerator. It’s 877-768-7239. It’s the Plumbing Source. It’s the only number you need for plumbing services, whether it’s an emergency or not.

Class dismissed!
