Boxing success is reliant on several factors. This includes the exercises and fitness classes you participate in. At each of TITLE Boxing Club’s Colorado locations, they offer explosive, total-body boxing classes and provide personal trainers to work with members of all fitness levels.

Obviously, your arms are an important part of becoming a successful boxer. Here are some of the best arm exercises you can do to improve your boxing prowess:

  • Dumbbell Uppercuts: This exercise will help you add power to your uppercut punch. It also enhances the muscle strength in your biceps, shoulders, and back. Plus, because the movement of this exercise temporarily throws your balance off, you should also see an improvement in your stability and leg strength. To perform this exercise, stand in the fighting stance while holding a dumbbell weighing 1 to 5 pounds. Then, move into the uppercut stance (a fighting stance with the elbows dipped toward the hips) and execute the uppercut with the weight. Complete three sets of 10 to 15 reps on each arm with one-minute rests between each set.
  • boxing-greenwood-village-coStraight Punching: When you use dumbbells while performing straight punches, you will increase the strength in your shoulders, arms, and chest. This will help you enhance the power behind both your straight right and left jab punches. To execute this exercise, stand with your arms at your sides and hold two 5-pound dumbbells. Bring your arms up so your palms are facing the sides of your face. Then push your right arm out in a punching manner and repeat with your other arm. Complete three sets of 10 to 15 repetitions with one-minute rests between each set.
  • Shoulder Presses: The power behind your punches is highly dependent on your shoulder strength. When your shoulders are strong, your stamina for keeping your guard up at all times will be increased. To perform this correctly, you will need a bench and dumbbells  of a comfortable weight. While sitting on the bench, hold the dumbbells in front of you. Then, bring them up to your shoulder height. Continue to press the dumbbells until they are touching above your head. Bring the weights back down to the starting position and perform nine more repetitions. Complete two more sets with a one-minute rest in between each one.
