As a symbol of beauty and health, many people strive to obtain a gorgeous, bright smile; this goal can often be achieved through porcelain veneers or Lumineers®. So, what is the difference between these two options? Today, the experts from Honolulu, Hawaii’s favorite dental clinic, Pediatric Dental Group, will explain what you need to know.

Both veneers and Lumineers® are excellent options for aligning and straightening one’s smile, balancing the teeth and gums, and broadening or lengthening teeth. For chipped, damaged, or otherwise broken teeth, veneers and Lumineers® can often be used to restore beauty and function. They also can cover up stubborn, unsightly stains that couldn’t be corrected through other means. In general, both procedures will help you attain a uniform, picture-perfect smile.

Veneers

Veneers are very thin, sturdy shells typically made from porcelain and bonded to the tooth’s surface. They are very natural-looking, stain-resistant, and function just like regular teeth. Typically, one’s existing teeth will be gently shaved and shaped to fit the mold of the veneers.

Lumineers®

While veneers are very thin, Lumineers® are even thinner. In fact, the super-thin shell is about the same width as a contact lens. Unlike with veneers, existing teeth don’t need to be molded before placing the Lumineers®. You can also keep your existing enamel, whereas, with veneers, much of it will need to be removed.

If you’re interested in a straighter, brighter, and more beautiful smile, both Lumineers® and veneers will get the job done. Ultimately, your decision will depend on your unique needs and preferences.
