It's inconvenient when your printer won't print out documents, but trying to figure out the cause can be downright frustrating. Luckily, Alpha Laser Richmond Corp. can help. As a provider of expert printer repair for New York City and the surrounding areas, they have a few tips on how to troubleshoot the most common printer issues.

Printer Won’t Print

The first thing to do is check and make sure the printer is turned on, all the cables are securely connected, and there is paper in the tray. If your printer is connected to a wireless network, check that you have the correct drivers installed on your computer. The drivers can usually be found on a CD that came with the printer or on the manufacturer’s website. the final question—are you sending your print requests to the right printer? Check the Devices and Printers area on your computer and select the correct printer.

Paper Jams

printer repairSheets getting stuck for no apparent reason interrupts your work flow. Open your printer and make sure there are no paper scraps that prevent your paper from moving smoothly through your printer. If everything is clear and you’re still getting error messages, make sure the paper tray isn’t overfilled and the sheets are properly aligned in the tray. A misaligned sheet can feed incorrectly, which can make your printer sense a jam. Keep in mind that old paper can absorb moisture, making it stick together and cause two or more sheets to get pulled into the printer. If none of these seem to be the problem, call your local printer repair shop for help.

Poor Print Quality

If the print on your documents comes out faded or streaky, it can be an indication your print head on your inkjet printer has clogged nozzles or is misaligned. Follow the instructions in your manufacturer’s manual on how to properly clean and realign the print head or bring your printer to your print repair expert for help. If your laser printer is producing low-quality prints, you may be low on toner. Remove the toner cartridge, shake it gently, and re-install it; this may help solve the problem temporarily, but you will eventually need to replace it with a new cartridge.
