The Upright Citizens Brigade, consisting of Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh, came from the ImprovOlympic of 1990. Hailing from Chicago, the comedy team staged their award winning sketch comedy show then introduced the highly successful improv show “Harold”, and finally began their training program.
The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater opened in February 1999, and soon became a hub for up-and-coming comics and progressive comedy. Casting directors, agents, and journalists all began to congregate to the club.
In 2008, the Upright Citizens Brigade continued its expansion by spreading their boundless comedy styles to audiences across the country through UCBcomedy.com. The website is the virtual home for all things comedy, including improv, sketch comedy, stand up, and original podcasts. The site includes exclusive material from performers, teachers, students, and friends who have made the Upright Citizens Brigade the leading brand of new comedy in the country.
The Upright Citizens Brigade produces over 25 unique shows a week, often four shows nightly, ranging from stand up from new and established comics, improv, sketches, and open mics. The close seated club provides an intimate environment with no drink minimum, providing guests the perfect spot for a spontaneous drink and show.
