In an era when there seems to be no shortage of amazing shows—not to mention more televised sporting events than ever—there are plenty of reasons to get sucked into your television set. However, you also want to keep fit. This is why the team at Oregon City-based internet services and cable company, Clear Creek Communications, suggests you combine these two activities. There’s no reason you can’t fit a work out in while catching up on Game of Thrones, the latest Real Housewives or the big game.

So what kind of workouts can you do while watching television? Here are a couple ideas:

  • Lunges: Great for your lower body while strengthening the core, lunges involve stepping forward with your body straight and chin up, essentially ‘taking a knee’ so that the leg in front of you is at a right angle. Then, while ensuring pressure is focused on your heels, push back to a starting position. Reps of 5 to 10 of these are great to work in.
  • televisionSit-Ups/Crunches: Perfect to fit in a commercial break, the good old sit-up or crunch is a great way to work out your abs; use a yoga mat while doing them for comfort, and try to do 25 at a time. Form is everything with this activity; just remember to pull your head straight up towards the ceiling as you’re doing them.
  • Planks: This exercise involves staying within an upward push-up position, resting weight either on your hands or forearms. The key is to make sure that your body is straight and your core fully engaged, and hold for 30 seconds per rep. Over time, as you continue to do this, you’ll be able to gradually increase the amount of reps.
  • Squats: You can use weights while you do squats; however, it’s also beneficial without. Start out standing with feet planted a little wider than shoulder-length, point arms to the front so that they’re parallel to the floor, then bend your knees and go down while pushing hips back. Hold for a few seconds and then rise back up. Try doing 15 to 20 of these at a time.

In this busy day and age, it’s good to know that you can keep up with your favorite television shows while also getting necessary exercise.
