This is not an indictment of police officers in general.  It goes without saying that many work hard and use their position and power to help people and do justice.   But I myself had an encounter with an officer that I found uncomfortable and intrusive.  It was a routine traffic stop, late at night with my wife after watching a late night movie.  My front headlight was out.  The officer wanted to know where we were coming from, where we were going, what theater, what movie we saw, etc.  It was strange.  I encourage everyone to watch the Foreign Language Film, “The Hunt”.  Its a great movie and vividly illustrates why everyday citizens sometimes need the help of lawyers when confronting overzealous authorities, whether it be cops or administrators of institutions, such as school or colleges.  Any time the police want to talk to you about an investigation and won’t be truthful about whether you are the target, CALL A LAWYER!  The police have no right to detain you unless they suspect you of a crime.  The call to the ONeill Law Firm is free.  608-519-3551.
