Cancer may be a physical illness, but it also has a mental and emotional impact — not only for the patient, but also for family members. That’s why Kona Community Hospital in Kealakekua, HI, has launched a specialty cancer support unit for loved ones of those coping with cancer. This new addition to the KCH cancer center will further the hospital in its mission to provide top quality care in a comfortable setting. The first meeting of the cancer support unit will take place at Kona Community Hospital at 6 p.m. on Sept. 13, 2016.

Kona Community Hospital’s state-of-the-art cancer center offers an array of cancer services, including screening, detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Their team of oncology specialists has the expertise and tools needed to offer a variety of cutting-edge treatments, including radiation oncology, chemotherapy, and surgical services. With the addition of a support group to their cancer unit, the hospital will tackle the spiritual side of the battle against cancer.

hospitalBy holding regular meetings every month, the cancer support unit aims to provide a forum for information and comfort for the families of cancer patients. In a safe and supportive space, participants can share their stories and learn from others going through situations similar to their own. Taking the time to talk to people who truly understand what you are dealing with can ease your burden and give you the spiritual strength to continue helping your loved one in the battle against cancer.

A member of Kona Community Hospital’s professional team will lead every meeting of the cancer support unit, providing guidance and information as attendees share their stories.
