Some recycling is straightforward. Aluminum cans, cardboard boxes, plastic containers, and paper products can all go straight into your household collection bin. With other items, the process isn’t so simple. If you’re renovating or cleaning up a neglected property, you might be wondering how to properly dispose of large appliances or hazardous items like car batteries. Miamitown Auto Parts & Recycling is here to answer four of these trickier recycling questions.

Frequently Asked Recycling Questions

Which types of scrap metal can I recycle?

Scrap metal falls into two categories: ferrous and non-ferrous. Ferrous metals include iron, steel, and anything a magnet will stick to; non-ferrous metals include aluminum cans, brass, copper wiring, and anything non-magnetic. Both types of metal are recyclable, but they are processed differently. Miamitown Auto Parts & Recycling accepts non-ferrous metals at both of its Cincinnati-area locations. Ferrous metals are accepted at the main Harrison Pike location.

How do I recycle dead batteries?

Used batteries can’t go in your household recycling bin because they contain hazardous acids, but they can still be collected at a recycling facility. Miamitown Auto Parts & Recycling is equipped to handle car batteries as well as lead acid batteries.

Which kinds of broken appliances are recyclable?

Miamitown Auto Parts & Recycling can accept most types of household appliances at either the main Harrison Pike location or the drive-through recycling center on Route 128. Freon-containing appliances like refrigerators and air conditioners are accepted at the main location only.
