When you attend the bi-annual Charlotte AutoFair events in the spring and fall, you’ll be sure to see a wide assortment of antique and collector cars. Many lots showing and selling cars during the auto show—located in Charlotte, NC—feature Cadillac models, giving classic car enthusiasts a chance to see or buy the current Antique Car of the Month: the first-generation Cadillac Seville.

With initial production started in 1975, the Cadillac Seville has represented an idyllic standard of luxury American automobiles. In fact, this model was produced until 2004. The first generation of production between 1975 and 1979, however, remains a favorite among Cadillac enthusiasts, as a symbol of the start of a unique approach to elevated car ownership. In fact, this model was assembled in Detroit, Michigan, to provide America with a small-size luxury car that could rival similar European imports.

Aesthetically, the first generation Seville presented sharp edges and slight angles—a look that would become standard among GM productions for years to come. Bill Mitchell drew inspiration from previous Chevrolet components and designed the body smaller than other Cadillac models, allowing the Seville to be marketed as “internationally-sized.” Many today still recognize the iconic wide front grille that was introduced with the Seville.

The Cadillac Seville featured rear-wheel drive and front engine configuration, complete with a 5.7L V8 engine. The front end also presented that iconic wide grille that many still recognize today. Over the years, Cadillac was able to change up configurations through the first generation, including convertible models that would make the Seville a must-have for young drivers.vintage auto show charlotte NC
