Summer break is a welcome rest from school for children, but education doesn’t have to stop when the summer begins. Rather than giving your kid a break from learning during this time, the tutoring program at JEI Learning Center in San Jose, CA, recommends coming up with some fun at-home activities to prevent summer learning loss.

If you're finding yourself staring into their toy box trying to come up with ideas, try out some of these activities to keep your child's mind engaged this year:

  • Cooking: Sometimes, the best ways to promote learning at home are just to involve your kids in your day-to-day activities like cooking and cleaning. Whether you prepare all your food from scratch or use ready-made meals, teaching your little ones how to measure out ingredients and cook their own food will expand their horizons and help them understand the science behind food preparation.

  • tutoring programGardening: In an age where you buy all of your food from a supermarket, clearing out a piece of space to plant a backyard garden will give your kids an opportunity to play outside and understand how food makes its way from the ground to your dinner table. Before planting the garden, bring them along to the nursery to pick out the seeds, and then let them help you take care of the plants and harvest the crops.

  • Acting: For all of you with kids that are bursting with creative energy, the tutoring program at JEI Learning Center suggests creating a space for them to collaborate with friends. A great way to do this is by building a puppet theater. You can help them make the puppets and write a plot line, and then kick back and watch the performance once it's finished.

To provide your kids with a chance to learn this summer, consider enrolling them in the tutoring program at JEI Learning Center by calling (408) 270-6162 today. Visit them online to learn more about their services.
