Spring allergy season is coming, and A Brighter Rainbow Learning Center wants to help families be prepared. As the 2014 allergy forecast is currently predicted to be particularly harsh, it’s important that parents everywhere work extra hard to soothe their young ones’ seasonal allergies, regardless of strength. When your children suffer from uncomfortable allergy symptoms, it can make a day at preschool and daycare difficult to endure. Focus, fun, and energy goes straight out the window! Fortunately, there are a few simple, easy, and effective ways parents can treat allergies at home.

Here are a few of the early childhood education center’s favorites:

  • Paying attention to foods: Children who are sensitive to particular allergens may experience similar reactions when consuming foods and beverages that have similar ingredients. For instance, a ragweed allergy (common in children) may indicate a sensitivity to bananas, melons, cucumbers, and sunflower seeds!
  • Changing tissues: If you’re committed to using thinner facial tissues, or off-brand names, that’s okay! But as children use more and more tissues each time they wipe a stuffed, congested, or runny nose, they irritate their sensitive skin. Be sure to choose a variety with lotion or aloe, which is easier on the nose.
  • Spending time inside: Even when the weather has taken a turn for the beautiful, it can bring with it unwanted allergies that inhibit health and happiness. Finding new ways to play indoors, and staying fun and active inside during peak allergy hours will decrease the chance of allergy attacks.

Of course, keeping kids hydrated, discouraging them from rubbing itchy eyes, and staying positive will boost confidence and energy throughout the unfortunate spring allergy season.
