As another school year ends and Summer is upon us there is a certain feeling of relief for both parent and student.  Life often times slow down a bit and it is time for relaxation, the warm summer sun, and maybe a vacation or two.  This is also the time of year that it is important for students to stay sharp in order to assure that they maintain a certain level of retention of the materials they learned over the past school year.  When analyzing scores for the SAT and ACT often times we find that the questions most often missed are the ones pertaining to the material that the students learned in previous years.  This comes from not utilizing and focusing on retention and instead continuing to learn new material that is now fresh in their minds.  Reviewing and learning the skills of how to be a great reader and writer are also key components to a well-rounded education.  There are plenty of ways tutoring during the Summer time can be beneficial and at Peach State Tutoring and Test Prep we are prepared to assist in any way possible.

Reviewing the material from the previous year gives the student the opportunity to keep the materials they have gone over recently fresh in their minds.  Whether it be reviewing the math concepts and formulas that they may need to retain for the upcoming ACT or SAT test, or perhaps working on reading and writing skills throughout the break, there is value in continuous study and education.  A writing workshop for various styles of writing such as narrative, persuasive, expository, timed, technical, and creative can be very advantageous.  Once proper essay writing structure is explained and understood it becomes a very valuable skill that a student can use to not only finish their K-12 school academics, but also something to take with them to college and the world beyond.  It is also important for a student to continue to read over the Summer break and even more important that they understand what it is that they are reading and the concepts and ideas that are being presented.  Often times during the school year there is very little time to read for enjoyment, so make sure that the student is picking material that interests them and stimulates their mind.  If the student stays sharp by continuing to study and review they will find their retention level will increase by a large margin.
