Choosing the right surface for your media can make or break your artwork.
Paper selection – not all paper is alike.  Wet media versus dry media, textured or smooth, heavy or light weight these are just some of the choices you will be faced with when looking for the right paper sheet or pad for your next project.  Using whatever paper you have on hand might seem convenient, but could have negative consequences if it’s qualities are working against you and not for you.  Precise detail and clean lines are enhanced by smoother harder papers like bristol, smooth drawing or vellum papers.  Ink, watercolor washes or some markers requires sized papers like watercolor or mixed media papers to protect the paper surface from pilling (crumbling into bits) or blotting instead of allowing for control of washes and blends.  Pastels and charcoal are better suited on papers with tooth (slight rough texture) and are often toned.  You can save time and get better results by using papers created specifically for the media you’re using.  Hawaiian Graphics prides itself on a wide selection of art papers, paper pads, sheets and rolls from top quality brands.  Our staff is ready to help you choose the right paper for your specific or general needs.
