Whether your next project is building a new space or renovating it, Pacific Striping is here to help you stay compliant with state and federal building guidelines, particularly when it comes to parking regulations. Based in Honolulu, HI, the locally owned and operated company has been providing high-quality concrete painting, striping, and signage throughout the island of Oahu.

While the Disability and Communication Access Board at Hawaii’s Department of Health has a published guide online, Pacific Striping wants you to understand some of the main points regarding parking lot painting regulations, as established by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Access Aisles

Access aisles must be five feet in width and shared between two accessible spaces. Hawaii Administrative Rules (HAR) specify that they must have an outline that is four inches wide and an interior that is filled with forty-five-degree diagonal striping, which must also be four inches wide. Although there is no color requirement, blue, yellow, or white is preferred for parking lot striping.striping

Accessible Spaces

The accessible spaces themselves must be firm, slip-resistant, and level. The maximum slope allowed is 1:48 in every direction. A slope that is too steep makes it difficult for a person with a disability to exit or enter their vehicle. As with access aisles, these areas need to be marked by a four-inch wide line.

Number of Spaces

The number of spaces depends on the size of the parking facility. For example, if there are less than 25 spaces, at least one of those must be an accessible space; if there are 26 to 50 spaces, then at least two must be accessible, and so on. The parking lot painting and striping must reflect these designations, but there is no color requirement.

Beyond concrete painting and striping, the expert team at Pacific Striping has the skills to tackle asphalt patching and repair work. They're also available 24/7, so no matter where you are on Oahu, whenever you need their services, they'll be able to help. Call them today at (808) 859-3664 or visit their website for more.
