Spring is The Gardener's favorite season! It's a time of year when everyone is getting back into full gear with spring cleaning, landscaping, and gardening. Most importantly, it's when many new plants and shrubs start coming back to life all over Missouri. When your own landscape starts getting lusher by the day, you can help out with some simple springtime landscaping.

Follow these tips from The Gardener to clean up your landscaping this spring:

  • Perform Light Pruning: Some plants benefit from spring pruning while others should be pruned in autumn. It's always a good time to remove dead and diseased foliage, however. Cut back any dead tree branches before they fall.
  • Cut Back Your Perennials: Common perennials may have started taking over your property over the past year, and right now is the perfect time to give them a trim. Allow some growth, especially for woody plants, but don't be afraid to cut them back right down to the base, if you desire. If you don't have time for all that work, just call The Gardener!

  • Start Weeding & Raking: Will you be doing a lot of gardening on your landscape? You can start by getting rid of all those weeds, making sure to pull them out by the roots. Once you've cut back everything by hand, you can rake your garden beds, which will get rid of even more unwanted weeds.
  • Mulching: Mulching is a great way to keep your plants moist and cool during summer weather, and it looks great too. It also helps keep weed growth at bay. Be sure to remove old mulch before adding new mulch, as too much will attract insects.
