With so many different tools in the marketplace designed to aid in brush clearing, choosing which to use can be overwhelming. Based in Anchorage, Alaska Hydro/Ax Land Clearing knows the ins and outs of the excavation and land clearing business.

Alaska Hydro/Ax Land Clearing has found these five tools to be the most effective for brush clearing:

  • Pole Saw: For brush clearing that is high above your head, you need a tool that gives you a little extra “arm” length. Using a pole saw is safer than standing on a wobbly ladder or climbing a tree, as pole saws have extra-long handles that allow you to maintain a solid footing on the ground.
  • Weed Whip: If you have long grass you’re looking to get rid of, weed whips are a great choice. They are on the lighter side and are simple to use. The handle length of weed whips vary, so choose a size that feels comfortable to you and start clearing your brush.
  • Pruning Shears: Pruning shears are a staple in many gardener's sheds. Because they’re so small and agile, they make land clearing easier where thick pricker bushes and weeds are involved.
  • Hatchet Or Ax: Some brush clearing just requires a good hacking. For smaller land clearing jobs, a hatchet is the easier choice to carry around and can cut through branches and small trees up to 2 inches in diameter. For larger trees or entangled bushes, the use of an ax is recommended.
  • Chain Saw: The most versatile land clearing tool—which can be used for brush clearing of all sizes—is the chain saw. No matter what type of land clearing you need to do, chain saws will be able to get the job done with very little effort on your part.
