3 Helpful Tips When Making Cupcakes with Your Kids at Home, Palo Alto, California

Few moments are as special as bonding with your children in the kitchen. Baking is not only a delicious pastime but an excellent opportunity to teach your youngsters teamwork, patience, and attention to detail. If you are looking for some helpful cupcake-making tips, look no further. Browse our top three tips to learn more!

1. Timely Removal – When your cupcakes are fresh out of the oven, never leave them sitting in the tin. When these treats are hot they will produce steam and that wet environment will cause the cupcake liners to pull away from them. Also, the hot baking pan can actually cause the cupcakes to continue cooking even after they’re out of the oven, which can produce dry and disappointing results.

2. Sous-Chef Responsibilities – Since your little ones will likely be extra excited to not only make delicious cupcakes but spend time with you in the kitchen, it’s important to assign responsibilities early on to avoid chaos and stress once you get going. Have your children take on sous-chef roles, measuring ingredients or simply dumping the ingredients you’ve measured into a big mixing bowl. Depending on their ages and skill levels, you can determine which steps they can take on and which ones are better left for the adults.

3. Careful Topping – If your kids have an extra large sweet tooth and want to top their sugary creations with some cookies or candy, make sure to remind them to do it right before they present their treats to the family and eat them. When you put toppers on your cupcakes and leave them be for hours at a time, the cookies and candies can get soggy and unappetizing since they will absorb moisture from the frosting. Just like you’d wait to add dressing to a salad right before serving, do the same with your toppings and you’ll be in good shape.

At the end of the day, the most important part of baking with your children is the bonding aspect. Try not to worry about spills and messes since those can always be cleaned up and they really don’t matter in the bigger picture.
