Moving is a stressful time for everyone, but decorating your new place should be a fun experience. Keep these tips in mind when you pack up and go.

Clean like crazy at the old place before you move in to the new place. That means going through everything…not just the stuff you want to keep. Cleaning out your old place completely gives you a great chance to see what you want to pack to move to your new home and what you need to throw away. Keep in mind that throwing things away is a normal process in moving. What you keep is a great foundation for the decorative theme of your new home.

Start with the bedroom. The bedroom is where you spend one third of your time. It is also where you most likely keep valuables and where you will unpack your clothes after moving. Decorating this room first will get you on track for the whole home, and set the mood for the next big step.

Accept help from friends and family. You may want to possess your new home but don’t push away people who want to help you decorate. If someone is nice enough to assist you in packing, don’t be surprised if they try to assist in the decorating. For those with a vision for a new home, this can be frustrating, but don’t forget that these people only want to help!
