Located in Boulder, CO, Cheetahfit Training and Massage Center takes clients with minor issues and others that have given up all hope of being active again and puts them back in the game of life. The certified trainers at the Cheetahfit Training and Massage Center have the knowledge and skills it takes to get you feeling great and enjoying life again without being crippled with unnecessary knee pain.

Knees are a potential weak link in the body and one of the most commonly injured joints. They are involved in any major lower body movement and have less range of motion than other joints making them more susceptible to injury. For example just walking up the stairs puts a four times the pressure of your body weight into the knee through the increase of ground forces. So every day wear and tear can end up in pain. A sprinter can generate over 1000 pounds of ground force that travels through the knee.

When someone has a knee injury they might worry that exercising can cause them more pain and damage. The opposite is actually true. When you strengthen the muscles around the knee joints (Quadriceps, Hamstrings, Abductor and Adductor) and increase flexibility it can help prevent further injuries in the future. During exercise, you should not feel more pain that you are already in. Pushing through the pain is NEVER a good idea.

Clients will say that they feel strong enough to do an exercise, but it is their joints that can’t take it. Trainers at Cheetahfit asses any existing damage in the knee and ensure that all exercises are appropriate for improvement. Be encouraged that issues like Tendonitis, Patella Femoral Syndrome and other chronic injuries can be improved with proper training and guidance.

At Cheetahfit Training and Massage Center we have Real Ryder bikes which are a great way to help you get more out of the workout and lower the risk of injury. The full frame of these spin bikes moves with you so it reduces the wear and tear from repetitive stress associated with being locked into a non-moving bike frame for to long.

Cheetahfit Trainers also help their clients with knee pain by doing all kinds of targeted stretches (chair knee extension, heel slide knee extension, knee flexion and hamstring stretch) and knee strengthening exercises(wall slide, bent-leg raises, abductor raise, hamstring curl and step ups to name a few). Foam roller also works great, but be aware it is not the most comfortable thing to do. Make sure you foam roll the muscles of the quads, IT band, hips and inner thighs after receiving proper instruction on how to do. Randomly rolling and playing self massage therapist is never a good idea!

Another important thing is knowing proper biomechanics. Make sure that you keep the shin’s perpendicular to the ground while training the lower body. Also when it comes to lunges, you should always lunge backwards, because of the sheering forces on your knee produced from forward and walking lunges. Lunges performed moving forward are popular in box gyms, but unfortunately they cause lots of unwanted stress on the knee especially under an extra weight.
