Touro College GST: First Three Graduates of M.A. in Web & Multimedia Design Program(Published in NoMad, Manhattan)

Touro College Graduate School of Technology is proud to announce the first awarding of Masters of Arts degrees to three students of the Web & Multimedia Design program: Chava Drummond, Gurban Haydarov, and Narayan Malla.

Chava Drummond, who spent both her undergraduate and graduate career at Touro College, graduated the Web & Multimedia Design program with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Her thesis project, the website Our Chasunah, is an innovative wedding planning website designed for members of the Orthodox Jewish community planning a wedding in New York. Chava Drummond’s use of MySQL and PHP to create the database of the website displays her prowess in technology and design.

Hailing from Turkmenistan, Gurban Haydarov took an active role in the program by mentoring and tutoring his peers in the Multimedia Tools, Intro to Multimedia Technology, and Designing for E-Commerce courses. Gurban’s interest in education was further explored through his thesis project, in which he created an Educational Web App for teachers in the classroom to gauge their students’ progress in the subject matter of the specific course taught.

According to Gurban, "In a larger classroom, it is hard to meet each student’s needs, and Learning Signal helps teachers to solve this problem. Learning Signal is all about helping instructors to know how each student is doing in class. It collects information about if the class is too slow, or too fast for the student and provides real-time feedback to teacher. Teacher and student both will have their own profile page and they will see their own page and activities. Both of them will have their username and password to access their accounts."

Narayan Malla from Nepal, an alumnus of the Touro undergraduate Data Communications program and recipient of a department award for the highest earned GPA in January 2010, continued his education within the Masters of Arts in Web and Multimedia Design program in Touro GST. Narayan’s passion for film was demonstrated by his thesis project film trailer “Out of the Fire,” in which he explored the struggles within the various communities of New York City using a diverse cast.

These three graduates represent the goal of Touro College GST in creating a new generation of confident technology leaders. From creative efforts to entrepreneurial ventures, the Web & Multimedia Design program guides students towards their future career goals within the technology industry in New York City.
