Kona Community Hospital’s Level III Trauma Center offers an important healthcare service to local residents and visitors who experience potentially devastating accidents. The trauma center treats the most critical types of injuries, providing expert care at a time when minutes can make a difference between life and death. In addition to the trauma center, the hospital also offers surgical services, women's health services, and hospital imaging services from its Kealakekua, HI, location.

The Kona Community Hospital Emergency Room treats both standard emergency cases and trauma victims. If you break your leg or suffer a heart attack, you’ll be treated by the emergency room team. The trauma team will treat you if you experience one of these types of injuries:

  • hospitalGunshot Wounds
  • Serious Burns
  • Severe Injuries From Car Accidents
  • Brain Injuries
  • Severe Fall Injuries
  • Stab Wounds

When you arrive at Kona Community Hospital, the experienced staff will evaluate your condition and gather the trauma team if you have severe injuries. Often, the ambulance crew will alert the emergency room on the way to the hospital, and the team will already be assembled before you arrive. In some cases, you may receive emergency surgery to repair your wounds and stabilize your condition.

Some trauma patients spend time in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, where they are closely monitored. The trauma center also works with other hospitals and healthcare facilities in Hawaii and can make arrangements to transfer you to another facility if more specialized care is needed.

Accidents don’t always happen during usual business hours. That’s why Kona Community Hospital offers trauma care seven days a week, 24 hours a day. No matter what time of day you arrive, you’ll receive skilled, compassionate care.
