If you actually want to achieve your New Years Resolutions this year then you've come to the right place!

We have five tips to share with you, that will guide you in making sure that you DO what you know you need to do to for you to live your best life ever.

Reaching Goals = Jumping for Joy!

1. 'Don't worry, be happy.' And how exactly do the lyrics of this cappella song help you stick to your goals?! Positive psychology, defined as the scientific study of what enables individuals and communities to thrive (International Positive Psychology Association), has shown that the happy folks amongst us are not only more successful, but are more likely to stick to our goals. Practicing positive psychology exercises can train your brain to see opportunities, instead of failures.

2. Mentally contrast where you are now, with where you will be once you successfully achieve your resolutions. Many people make the mistake of focusing only on where they would like to be, or what they would like to have. This is a good starting point, put this is often not enough to kick your butt into action. Piers Steel, author of The Procrastination Equation advises; ‘Focus on the gap. Put the same emphasis on vividly reflecting on this discrepancy as you did on imagining your idealized future.’

3. Will power alone will inevitably fail; create a vision that is greater than yourself.I learnt this wonderful tool from the late Debbie Ford (an internationally recognized expert in the field of personal transformation). Think about who will benefit from you achieving your resolutions. Do you want to lose weight, so that you can have more energy to play with your kids? How will your marriage benefit from you living your best life? How will you be better able to serve the people in your life when you are living in alignment with your goals and values? Creating a vision that is greater than yourself is simple, but extremely powerful...in fact, when done right it can give you more power than that inaptly named will power of yours!

4. Invite a friend or family member. Sharing your resolutions with a friend or loved one will not only hold you accountable to them, but will make achieving your resolutions more enjoyable. Try and not only share your resolutions with the chosen person, but to also share your game plan with them.

5. Set yourself up for success. How many times have you gone on a diet and then beat yourself up for not being able to stick to it? Have you ever thought that maybe it's not your fault or your body's fault, but that diets are set up for failure, not success? Most diets are not sustainable and do not take your unique needs and bio-individuality into account, which is why more than 90% of people who go on a diet put the weight back on. When you do what is right for your incredible body, you set yourself up for success. Your body wants to thrive - treat it right and it will never let you down!

Unlike diets, the programs that I offer at IMUA are designed for success. I guide people in making healthier choices that are sustainable, we work together to implement one or two changes at a time. Diets are about deprivation - health is about abundance. Positive psychology, creating a vision board and accountability are just a few of the fun tools that we'll use to make sure that 2014 is your best year ever!
